Complete Dakar conversion kit for the BMW R 12 G/S

The HA83 Kit transfers the design language of the legendary Paris-Dakar motorcycles to the modern BMW R 12 G/S. The extensive kit combines a larger fuel tank with fairing, ergonomic, protective and exhaust components. Installation is plug & play, requires no modifications to the original parts and remains fully reversible.

Oversized fuel tank

• Nylon tank with a capacity of approximately 25 liters, 10 liters more than the original

• The original fuel cap, fuel pump and activated carbon filter are reused

The original BMW crash bar specifically identified in the manufacturer's notes is not compatible with the tank. The same applies to the BMW brackets for the auxiliary lights specified there. The BMW logos shown are not included. Pre-cut 3M double-sided adhesive tape for reusing the logos from the original tank is included in the set.

Fenouil fairing

The ABS fairing reinterprets the style of the legendary R80 GS PD for the R 12 G/S. It replaces the original windscreen, provides aerodynamic protection and comes with integrated brackets and the required mounting hardware. It is finished in light white, matte black or red; an extension is optionally available.

Comfort handlebar and handlebar pad

• Old-school steel handlebar with crossbar and a constant diameter of 22 mm
• Matte black epoxy powder coating
• Higher than the original handlebar and featuring a more comfortable bend for a more relaxed riding position
• Mounts to the original handlebar risers and controls
• No modifications to cables or brake lines required

The classic off-road handlebar pad features the Unit Garage logo and protects the rider's face from the crossbar in the event of a fall. It is 23,5 cm long and has a diameter of 6 cm.

Rear fender and rally seat cover

• ABS rear fender styled after the GS models of the 1980s
• Can be exchanged for the original fairing beneath the seat
• Painted and supplied with installation instructions
• The BMW logo visible in the images is not included

The rally seat cover made from high-quality synthetic leather replaces the original cover. An additional internal foam layer increases comfort. The cover features a carrying strap and sealed seams to prevent water ingress. It fits the original rally seat.

For installation, remove the seat, detach the original cover after removing the staples, center the new cover and secure it with new staples. If you lack experience, installation by an upholsterer is recommended.

Akrapovič-Unit Garage exhaust system

The exhaust system is not compatible with the left-side frame for BMW bags.

Engine and crash protection

The larger engine guard made from 3 mm thick anodized Peraluman light alloy protects the engine, front exhaust headers and the particularly exposed area of the catalytic converter. It is cold-formed, features outlet openings and reinforcing ribs, and comes ready to install including mounting hardware, vibration dampers and spacers.

The pair of crash bars is made from 25 mm steel tubing with a wall thickness of 2 mm and a highly durable powder coating. The double-sided protective tubing integrates into the frame. Most maintenance work can be performed without removal. Accessories and installation instructions are included; the bars are compatible with original cylinder head covers and guards as well as suitable third-party versions.

CNC-machined engine covers

The pair of covers incorporates the classic lines of older BMW boxer engines in a modern form. The parts are CNC-machined from solid material and are available black anodized or sandblasted and anodized. Both versions feature machined fins and a logo. They are compatible with the BMW R12 boxer engines of the R 12, R 12 nineT and R 12 G/S models.

Passenger grab handle

The minimalist stainless-steel handle with a highly durable powder coating provides support for the passenger, helps secure luggage behind the seat and can assist when moving or supporting the motorcycle off-road. The installation kit is included. For installation, the two small original brackets for additional straps beneath the rear mudguard must be removed; the handle serves the same purpose. It is compatible with all Unit Garage bag carriers.

Installation and compatibility

The kit is designed for the BMW R 12 G/S. Instructions and video tutorials assist with the conversion, which according to the manufacturer can be completed within a few hours. All components are plug & play, no modifications to OEM parts are required and the conversion is fully reversible. Images may show an earlier version due to ongoing product improvements.
