BMW R 120 G/S [2004-2012] - Basic Kit

Minimalist G/S conversion with a streamlined front end

The R120 G/S Basic Kit transforms the BMW R1200 GS into a lighter, cleanly styled interpretation of the classic G/S. The minimalist front end does without a fairing, while the radiator is relocated in front of the engine. The motorcycle's comfort and handling are retained.

The replaced components weigh a total of 6,4 kg less than the original parts. Four kilograms of this reduction come from components located in front of the handlebars on the standard GS. According to the manufacturer, this particularly improves handling in the city and on mixed routes.

Conversion Concept

• Minimalist front end with Basic headlight
• Relocation of the original radiator from below the headlight to the front of the engine

Tank Covers and Seat

• Pair of lightweight tank covers made from special resin with carbon fiber reinforcements, graphics and a transparent protective finish
• The right tank side panel can be quickly removed for air filter maintenance.
• The rear mounting bracket has a slot for a tank bag.
• Black seat made from high-frequency printed synthetic leather with hand-finished side stitching in cotton thread
• Designed for long journeys and supplied with its own frame for installation on the original mounting points
• The original seat lock and therefore the vehicle key are reused.

Fairing and Rear

• Lightweight matte black side panels with R120-G/S graphics, transparent finish, fasteners, rubber parts and screws
• Transparent protective film for the frame
• Lightweight side covers in a matte aluminum color, including inserts and mounting screws
• Matte black rear fender with taillight, lamp and wiring compatible with the original connector
• Eyelets for the turn signal cables and mounting screws
• Steel luggage rack with durable powder coating and integrated passenger grab handles

Handlebars, Headlight and Mounts

• CNC-machined handlebar risers made from solid aluminum alloy with an anodized finish
• The original handlebar position and original upper section of the risers are retained.
• Homologated headlight with lamps and the parts required for installation
• Powder-coated steel headlight frame for mounting the Basic headlight and optional fairings
• The original instruments can remain in their position.
• Sturdy powder-coated steel tank mounts designed to hold the original rubber buffers

Radiator Relocation

The low radiator kit relocates the original radiator from its position below the headlight to the front of the engine. It includes the required rubber hoses, connectors, clamps and new radiator mounts. The original tubular crash bar can be retained in combination with this kit.

Installation and Luggage Systems

Some components intentionally retained in their original form are transferred from the motorcycle. The three original M5 clips must be used for the upper connections of the tank covers together with the supplied M5 × 12 mm button-head screws. The original pointed M5 screws must not be used, as they may damage the covers.

Original ADV aluminum cases with metal frames can be used in the R120-G/S configuration. Original Vario plastic cases require a matching case frame, available separately.

• On the Adventure model, installation is only possible if the original plastic tank is replaced with the original tank from the R1200-GS model.
