YAMAHA YZF R 1 [2015-2021] - Z-ring chain

Extensive tests in the laboratory and on the road have shown that the service life of the HPE chain is at least as long, if not longer, than that of a conventional, regularly lubricated Z-ring chain. A special highlight is the coating tetrahedral amorphous carbon (ta-C), one of the most advanced coatings from the group of DLC (Diamond Like Carbon) coatings. This coating is applied to the surface of the chain's bushings and rollers and ensures a reduction in energy losses and an increase in efficiency in the secondary drive.

The very high hardness of the coated surface combined with a low coefficient of friction leads to optimized performance. Additionally, the elimination of chain cleaning and lubricant spraying during operation helps minimize environmental impact. The groundbreaking ta-C coating technology was developed through intensive research and development work by Regina engineers in Italy.
